In fact, it's $100 less than what we saw during Black Friday of last year. The iPad Air is a pretty massive upgrade over the standard iPad and is closer in performance to the iPad Pro.
2022 Apple iPad Air 10.9" 64GB WiFi for $399.99
The newest 5th generation Apple iPad Air was released in March of 2022 with a $599 MSRP. It's usually significantly more expensive than the base $429 Apple iPad, but the upgrades justify the price premium. The iPad Air boasts a seemingly similar 10.9" 2360x1640 Retina display found in the newest iPad, but it also supports True Tone and P3 wide color like the iPad Pro model. Likewise, the iPad Air hosts the same powerful Apple M1 chip found in the 2021 iPad Pro (the newer 2022 model now has the Apple M2 chip). Despite the more powerful hardware, the iPad Air is roughly the same size as iPad but is thinner and weighs less. Like all of the newer iPads released, the iPad Air features the universal USB Type-C connector, so you won't need a proprietary Lightning cable.
