Investigate the Suspicious Toys is a side quest in Baldur's Gate 3 where players must locate the source of explosive-filled toys intended for refugees. Since the clues to this mystery aren't highlighted on your map, this walkthrough will guide you through the various steps to stop a dangerous and cruel conspiracy.

How to Start Investigate the Suspicious Toys

To start this side quest, head to the Requisitioned Barn in southeast Rivington. You’ll need to speak to Manip Nestor to get inside, or you can try sneaking inside.

This is less advised, because if you get caught it’ll make the guards angry with you. Once inside, check on the open crate full of toys in the north corner to discover the toys are full of explosives.

When Nestor or another guard comes over to investigate, explain the situation and the quest will be added to your journal.

Who Donated Explosive Toys?

You’re tasked with investigating who could have donated these dangerous toys to the refugees, but you aren’t given many leads. You could ask all the NPCs around, but in order to make concrete progress, you’ll need to head to the large mansion just northwest of the requisitioned barn.

You’ll happen upon Arfur Gregorio, the owner of the mansion, arguing with some refugees in an attempt to vacate them from his home. For the purposes of this quest, it’s recommended you persuade him to let them stay.

After settling the matter, head into the house, to the room in the east corner, where a hatch is partially hidden beneath some crates.

You need to enter the hatch to climb down to a trap-filled basement.

Make your way to the corner opposite from where you entered, and open the trapped-chest to discover a letter implicating Arfur in the scheme to donate explosive toys to the refugees.

If you took the refugee’s side in their argument, Arfur will storm off. He can be found at Sharess’ Caress, north of the South Span Checkpoint. Confront him to learn who else is involved, he’ll offer a lead and a pass into the lower city. If you completed Solve the Open Hand Temple Murders, you should already have a lower city pass, otherwise you can accept his offer. If you refuse to let him go, you’ll have to fight, but he has very little health. Once your business with Arfur is concluded, your next stop is Felogyr’s Fireworks.

Felogyr’s Fireworks

The fireworks workshop is located in the Lower City. When you arrive, you’ll need to head southwest from the Basilisk Gate waypoint sigil.

The workshop is marked by a quest marker, so follow it until you reach the double doors just above the Heapside Strand.

Once inside, you can speak with the man behind the counter, Avery Sonshal, and give him the passphrase Arfur gave you, “Uncle Felogyr sent me” to gain access to the second floor.

Here you’ll find a guard and a vendor, but they’ll stop you from going up to the third floor. Ultimately you’ll have to fight most of the workers in the building. The good news is that, since you’re in a fireworks shop, there are plenty of explosives to take advantage of in a fight. If you have any fire spells, or throwable explosives, use them to even the odds. The best way to start the fight is to have a character turn invisible (through use of a potion, spell or scroll) then head upstairs and blow up the cache of powder barrels against the south wall. This will set off a reaction that should kill a couple of enemies before the battle even starts.

Once the fight is over, loot Avery Sonshal for a vault key and his gold, then teleport to the nearest waypoint, since the Flaming Fists and a Steel Watcher will soon come to investigate the commotion. This also signals the end of the quest, with your rewards being whatever valuables and explosives you can loot from the building.
